Tour of California starts this Sunday. The sprinters will likely dominate
the first 5 stages, but the GC battle will start emerging on ITT Stage 6
(Big Bear) and final GC will be decided next Saturday, May 16, during the
Queen stage 7, up Mount Baldy. This is where Horner won in 2011 (helped by
teammate Leipheimer, they finished 1-2), and where Gesink won in 2012.
Now the race is back 3 years later.
Descenders have ridden up GMR and Mt. Baldy and watched the race back in
2011 and in 2012, riding virtually identical routes. I suggest we stick to
the traditional route up GMR to Baldy, starting from Glendora, with an
optional longer return via Cattle Canyon, East Fork and San Gabriel Canyon
(Rt. 39 – which we did when we climbed to Crystal Lake) – OR you opt for
standard return the way we come (out and back), via GMR. Your choice.
The proposed (longer) route is here: (77.8mi, 10K+ feet).
I am also attaching a brochure with detailed description (heavily recycled
from 2013, for environmental friendly reasons).
We will meet at Spring Meadow at 7AM and leave at 7:30AM so we can start
riding (from George Manooshian Park) by 9:30AM at the latest. You may also
opt to go directly to Manooshian Park, still let me know so we look for you.
In order to organize carpool, let me know if you plan on coming, if you can
drive and how many (riders+bikes) you car can take.
You should come!
